The Water Lantern Festival is here for the community to enjoy and experience the wonders of Friendship, Family, Gratitude, Hope, Inner Peace, Love, and Healing, and above all, to celebrate life!
This event is for people of all ages, diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and for the entire family, friends, and loved ones to experience an amazing moment.
The water lantern movement that has been growing in popularity in recent years comes from the tradition of making “Krathong” or buoyant, decorated baskets, which are then floated on a river in Thailand. The festival is known as "Loi Krathong". Loi Krathong takes place on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. The exact date of the festival changes every year. In the Western calendar, this usually coincides with a full moon.
At the event, there will be music for the occasion, food trucks, and some novelty vendors. The main activity and focus of the event are for people to decorate their lanterns together with friends, family and loved ones.
As the sun begins to set and dusk takes over the sky, the magic of the festival begins as the lanterns get lit up and begin to be launched on the water. Lanterns flow and drift across the lake carrying unique messages of love, hope, healing, or any other massage anyone chooses to display.
Access to the venue is free, but you need to purchase your lantern to participate in the launching ceremony. Lanterns are made from wood and rice paper, to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
The Water Lantern Festival is a for-profit event. However, we partner with local charities and non-profit organizations who will receive a donation from the proceeds.
